Going, going… gone?

While Sir Allen Stanford may be able to disappear – however briefly - when the going gets tough, for most of us in business we’ve no choice but to stay focused and motivate our teams to get results.

Generating sales may be tough in many markets at the moment, but there is still business out there, so now’s the time to get your team together and look at business that may be out of your traditional comfort zone.

Your team will need your leadership and support more than ever, so work with them and encourage everyone to look for new opportunities. There may be new markets – not just in the UK, but what about overseas, particularly with the current exchange rate? What about new services – is there a way you can develop your service or product to tap into a niche market that is being overlooked?

Whatever market you’re in, you can’t bury your head in the sand or simply disappear. Look for opportunities and make sure your team is all pulling in the same direction, motivating them to support your business and achieve more.

This is very true in the current market, it has never been more important to be creative and hunt out new business opportunities. Developing a new service that adapts to the current market challenges is a great way to target existing clients and creating new business relationships critical for success!

Now more than ever the decision makers I’m meeting are trying to turn their account management teams from order takers into proactive sales people. Whereas previously you could wait for the business to be offered to you, times have changed and account managers need to be asking the difficult questions. Many companies are giving their account managers the boost in confident they need and best questioning techniques to ensure they are uncovering prospects they were traditionally in their remit. Especially when increasing pressure is being put on sales people to perform, it is imperative that you as a company are offering them the support they need to reach those increased targets. Training workshops allow employees to vent their frustrations in a controlled environment whilst showing them a solution to the problems they are facing.
